I got the slightly smaller version of the Flowmaster Merge mine is: 2 1/2" Y-pipes going into the merge with a 3" pipe coming out to the catback. Works good. You can probably get a good pic of these on the Flowmaster site.

Whatever, anyway I can feel the Torque better now from 2000-4000 rpms. If u look at the QTP Y pipes That is how mine looks.
Since there isnt a cost problem between the 3.5" and 4" merge, and the ground clearance isnt really a big deal, then why make a big deal over the 3.5? With a 4" merge it gives you the option to upgrade to a full 4" system, or put in a 4" y pipe.
Someone check my math here, but using the ol' "Area of a circle is pie*r^2" I come up with:
4" pipe = 12.56
3.5" pipe = 9.6163
3" pipe = 7.065
2.5" pipe = 4.9063
Dual 3" pipes = 14.13
Dual 2.5" pipes = 9.8125
It looks like the 4" pipe has 23.4% more area than a 3.5" pipe, and 43.8% more area than a single 3" pipe.
It also looks like the 4" pipe is only 11% smaller than dual 3" pipes, but 28% greater than dual 2.5" pipes.
All this just for perspective

I just bought a custom ORY with a flowmaster 3-->4 inch merge. I'm going to run 4 inch straight out of the back. I'm debating at this point on just dumping it after the rear or putting tips on it. I'll probably put tips on it later when I get some money.
Installing a Borla XR-1 race muffler killed rasp instantly. I have it welded on right after my Y-pipe. Would this merge collector be worth it in my application? In reality I'd be spending about $100 total for this...
what other bends are required to mate the existing pacesetter y-pipe to the flowmaster merge? Which ones should I order so that I have everything when I get to the exhaust shop.

The idea for all of this is to have better flow when the two pipes come together. That is what the Flowmaster Merge collecter is for. Haveing 2 pipes slamming together is not a proper merge. It creates turblance and loss of power. Where as when they meet there is no back pressure. This is especially good for cars with alot of overlap from there cam. I probably picked up 10-12rwtq just for installing a FM Merge collector. You can really feel it from 2500 to 4000 rpms.
Yeah I know the benefits already which is why I bought one, I was just curious to see what other exhaust tubing is required to mate the two. I wanted to see what everyone was buying and if they bought their bends from jegs or summit at the same time so I could buy it all at once.
true flowmaster 4" merge here with a cutout. My car also has high-flow cats, and there is ZERO rasp. I can take it to the limiter in first gear and drive it out, no popping or anything. Very nice change of pace from my dumped true duals, plus, they don't make people's ears bleed anymore. close the cutout and it's extreme stealth, SLP Dual-Dual. I couldn't be happier with my exhaust, except for the fact it's under 3" off the ground

On some of the lesser Y pipes i wouldnt be that surprised. i have a basically carbon cut copy of the black exhaust pictured here. It works pretty well.
damn im interested in getting that flowmaster merge on my hooker ypipe.
I currently have a leak on my ypipe and i think its right where it makes the y.

I have a Spohn Torque Arm/Underbody Brace Combo, does anyone know or have an idea if this 3"-3.5" Merge would fit between the floorpan and my Underbody brace? I'm installing Jet Hot LTs and Jet Hot Catted Y-pipe soon. I know the Y-pipe as it is WILL fit. If this Merge doesn't take up much more room, I may have to get one and modify the Y before my install. Mmm...I guess it can't be much taller than 3.5" tall, right? When I get my car in the air to yank the factory Y and manifolds I'll do some measureing, but I'd still appreciate anyones opinion who may have done this already or is running a similar setup.

I had a custom piece done, that looks like ****, so I'm about to do it with the Eldebrock Y. Plan is to cut that Y right where it merges, place the Flowmaster Y where it fits best, and then cut pieces to bridge the gap. I'll post up pics when I'm done.
