Default Will a escalade 6l80e fit to my Corvette LS2 engine? what do I need?

Hee guys,

I have a '06 Corvette LS2 engine with a E38 ECM.

Will this trans mission below fit my engine and what do I need to do to make it work?
- 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV 6.2L AWD (the corresponding engine was a 6.2L V8) This is a 6L80 series transmission.

Or should I better go and find me a desent 4L65e?

Peter

It will fit up front, but probably has a big ole transfer case hanging off the back to run the AWD.....

Good point , I have seen a few without the AWD transfer case, I thought I might bolt up an GTO tailshaft or something...

What would it take to make it work?

How come the 6L80E from a vette is very expensive and these 6L80E from escalades? What is the difference?

or is a 4L65e still a better option for my LS2?

i would imagine its because of the location of the tranny itself and the internals are different.

Don't forget about your torque tube.

2WD trucks dont have the transfer case. They look normal. If you use an AWD version, you need to add a new output shaft (= pull trans apart) and an extension housing.

Vette trans is probably higher $$ because it is from a Vette. It bolts up to a transaxle at the rear and does not run a regular convertor housing and there is the tube between the engine and rear as mentioned.

(its like a comparison between the LS2 from the Vette, and the L76 from the G8. The LS2 is more in demand and costs more, its a Corvette motor after all but the L76 is a better engine. Better L92/LS3 heads and intake, with an LS2 block/crank/rods/pistons.)

Personally IMHO the A6 is a great trans. The right 6L80 or 6L90 from a 2WD will truck bolt up to your LS2 and run with the right ECM and harness setup.

What is it going in?

Part of the problem is the location. The vette 6L80E mounts in the back of the car so specialized parts may be required to make the vette 6L80E work. It might not even work because the casing could be different. What trans is in your car now? 4L65E? Before you try to do the swap make sure your LS2 has a 58x reluctor wheel because the 6L80E won't work with a 24x reluctor wheel. I'm not sure if anybody has cleared this hurtle yet but from what I've heard, the electronics aren't compatable. I would love to have one of these on my car.

Thanks for your advice guys!

I have a '06 Corvette LS2 engine (58X reluctor)
Right now I have a '05 corvette transmission with a gto belhousing and tailshaft, but I am not to sure about this setup.

I was leaning towards a 4L65E, but now I understand a 6L80E from a 2WD would be a good option to...

What do you mean with the right ECM and harness setup?

Thanks

Peter

Either trans will work just fine
The 6L80E and the 05 GTO 4L65E both use the same type of trans controller

Can we clarify whether we are talking 4L80 or 6L80?

4L80 uses same controller as 4L65, 6L80 has an integrated controller. Very different beasties!

Have you been thru this thread:

Not sure whether the Gen II has a larger tunnel or not, maybe you will be lucky and the tunnel can "absorb" a little more trans ?

As another respondent stated the 6L80 has an internal TCU. I am fairly certain it will work with an E38 ECU. Look at the transmission section, I learned more there.

It does and will. You do have to be careful that the software in both match. It would be best to use the same year for both. So if you had a 2010 transmission it would be safe to use a 2010 program in the E38. I would not use a 2007 6L80 and a 2012 E38 program. That will not work. However you can upload new software to match.

No they will not. The output shaft and tail end are different and would have to be swapped out which is more work then it's worth.
