It wont have much of a heat extractor effect since the vents are closer to the front of the motor i.e. radiator.

But It would look badass like how the Cobra hoods work.

I think there would be trouble with the T/A's because of the hood "scoops" going downward on a dip of the hood while the Camaro's are up top and water can run down the hood, but it would just collect on the T/A's. They would need some sort of work on the underside to redirect the stuff.

thats crazy you guys are seeing such lower coolant temps. i'll definitely do this just for that. i am concerned though with water. when i removed the underhood "blanket", water would drip in and collect on the headers and valve covers. i siliconed the scoops though and its fine now. i would be weary of the oil cap and dip stick, the passenger scoop sits right there. keep us posted with how the rain is with the car parked and going down the highway. maybe its evaporating from all the heat

i bet most of the heat is coming off of the headers. definitely a good thing to lose the heat no matter where its from.

hey johnny, i see i made your sig awesome!

It does fine in the rain. But I washed my Z yesterday and was Uber concerned about spraying water up in there. But I had no problems with it gettin in. I power rinsed it several times and barely a drop.

Yeah BMX, that is a badass quote!

i really want to see long term effects with weather. i opened my hood the other day when it was raining and watched water pour in through the scoops (uncut). i guess i missed some spots with the silicone.

lol. well i had the scoops out for about a month or two. well a month and went to the track a few times. and i never had one problem. the only problem i ever had was a humongous week long rain storm i hit a puddle and im guessing water splashed up underneath and got the opti wet from the bottom. but i never once noticed any problem from the scoops being out and they were out during the whole storm. and nothing just do it!!!!!!

I drove though lots of rain storms at G13, and didn't have any water coming in the engine bay, if it did it was evaporating before it had time to settle down.

Anyone want to fab up some grills for the vents?
I PM'd dragonz28 and he said if someone sent him some vents that it'd be possible to make some prototypes.
Who wants to volunteer theirs? lol

I'm thinking about doing this, but I have some questions.

How do those inserts pop out? Not the gray/black plastic screen but the painted inserts which you actually modified?

Also what about taking it a step further and adding fans/blowers underneath those? Any additional gain?

Any opinions on running dual cold air intakes right behind those slots?

(Complete newb here when it comes to Camaro mods, but I have always thought having the blanks not utilized was dumb.)

They just unbolt from the hood.
I've been thinking about some kind of custom ram air setup, but i don't really have the money to fab something up right now.

Found a suitable material for the cover:

What's everyone think...this is what I will probably use.

Round hole. (60% airflow)
- 22 gauge perforated plain steel. 5/32" holes 3/16" staggered centers. 33 holes per square inch.
- 24" x 12" Round Sheet - $18.99
- 12" x 12" Round Sheet - $9.99

Honeycomb. (79% airflow)
- 22 gauge perforated plain steel.
- 1/4" hexagon holes with 9/32" staggered centers
- 24" x 12" Honeycomb Sheet - $18.99
- 12" x 12" Honeycomb Sheet - $9.99

We'll since hot air rises I think the best utilization of these vents would be cooling...ie blowers.

What's the best air intake mod I could do to my '96 V6 Camaro (yeah I know it's an LS1 forum)? 1 top of the line and 1 mid level mod?

That honeycomb looks pretty clean.
I'm not too sure about the physics of these scoops, when we're goin at highway speeds i'm fairly sure that air is being forced into the engine bay, however at a stop they would have an opposite effect and let out the hot air.
I can see blowers being helpful at a stop, but they would seem rather useless at high speeds, unless they were some kickass fans.
What do you mean by 1 top of the line and 1 mid level mod?
