When my "check gauges" light comes on, I'd say I have roughly 4 gallons of fuel based on how many miles I average per gallon. I've driven 50-60 miles after the check gauge light comes on and I have always had at least 1 gallon of fuel left. I just try to see how many miles I go after the check gauge light comes on, and then see how many gallons it takes to fill up.
The f-body gas tank is shaped someone like a "V" and the gauge will drop exponentially faster the lower you get. But once you get right on the empty line, you may have 3-4 gallons left.
