Done quite a bit around here, I know of at least three people who have done this to their first gens, hell there are about three or four I know that have put LS1's in their datsun 260z's and one LS1 in a 240sx.
why not stick with a gen 1 sbc?

I understand a lot of people enjoy the LSX engines, I dunno I am more of a period person, I will use the engine from that era, although the LSX's are very well designed.
reliable, good gas milage, great hp. I would do an LSX in a heartbeat into an earlier f-body or any other GM muscle car.
I was thinking of doing one into a 79 vette that is for sale cheap locally with a great body & paint, just no engine. I also know where I can get a wrecked 99 SS M6 for $1,200.
I could probably make back the $1,200 by parting the SS out. I know the spoiler & hood are good.

I have owned stock hi-po as well as highly modified versions....the Gen III compares very well with everything I have experienced. I am very excited to get mine installed....not that it will compare to some of the heavily modded ones I see here on LS1TECH but I have been having a lot of fun putting this together. Someone here on this thread already made the comment....great mileage,reliable ,good power,lightweight...it is a total package

Personally, the single biggest non-60's giveaway are the coil packs on the valve covers...you can relocate those. The second biggest giveaway is the composite intake...you could still run a carb if you like. Take care of those two items and I think you would be pretty happy. My friends tell me a 69 has to have a lopey idle to "sound" right...I have heard some other LSX engines with aggressive lopes...and awesome full throttle through the exhaust. At the end of the day, an LSX is still a small block...just a better one in my humble opinion...

yeah, but I'm looking at doing a cross ram intake with the finned small block covers, cant do that with an LS!! 
Dont get me wrong, I love the reliability and mileage of a nice LS1, but sometimes old school is where its at!

I plan to go one of these routes for my '67...... stock LS1/T56, Procharged 408/T56, Stroker 427/T56. Haven't decided yet but I still have to get through last two years of college and finish off the body first.

LOL Hey I know what your going through same situation for me college and then body work....I'm looking to do a 408/T56 and I might put a Procharger
69 in LSX Thx Tones....still haven't found the best oil pan yet. Lots of folks recommend the Canton 13-274A but just as many say it leaks? I really want to set this motor in this weekend (LS6 with Magnacharger) but no pan yet!

Dam I didn't know so many of us college kids are on here lol I got a 68 I'm in the middle of putting an ls2/t-56 in, go with auto kraft http://www.autokraft.org/products/ great pan, alright price, its 400 but you can bolt it on and not worry about it, clears rack and pinion set ups as well i believe

oil pan Hi i'm in the middle of my 6.0 install in my 69 camaro. Oil pans you can get from brphotrods.com(GM LH8 oil pan) for the install. it is a gm intake that works perfect and has oil filter incorporated in the oil pan just like stock!! If you have any specific q's let me know maybe I can help
