Default New Tint Law in Texas Fine is $1,000 !

SB 589 requires that a vehicle equipment safety compliance label be placed on a windshield, side or rear window stating that the window tinting complies with the appropriate provisions of the Transportation Code. Failing to place the required label on the vehicle could lead to a $1,000 fine.

I belive this law becomes effective on Sept. 1, 2009. Don't get *** raped!

On newly tinted cars? What about cars with factory legal tints? This is a very stupid law.

Contact your reps and tell them that.

ok good because mine is somewhere around 20%, and I'd like to keep it that way for now. And I also like not having a front license plate.

Im pretty sure that fine is only applicable to the person who applied the tint, you should be safe but your tint guy will get burned if caught.

I'm pretty sure this is only for the people that apply the tint. Either way, what about our cars that already have tint, are we supposed to go back to the shop and get a label put in? Ha.

So what, the tint guy that puts the tint on your car gets the ticket? Hell no. It is your car, therefore your problem. Anybody can tint a car and say that someone else did it. You can buy tint at vatozone and put in on yourself. Tint is something that is supposed to be checked when a state inspection is performed. Also, I would like to see more info on this "law" that the op is stating. Thanks.

The problem with this is going to be finding a shop that will tint your car below legal limits. Maybe if you convince them to do it, not apply the sticker and when you get stopped just say the car came that way and you have no idea who tinted the windows.

On the other hand, this won't stop people from tinting the windows themselves and acting naive when they get stopped.

I tired to do a little bit of research on this but couldn't find a lot of info.
Seems to apply only to installers, but not sure what exactly happens to pre-existing tint on cars w/o the sticker.

Ha, hell ya the guy that puts the tint on would get the ticket(But I would also get a ticket for having illegal tint on my car, just not a $1000 ticket). Im my opinion, the law was created to prevent tint installers from putting on illegal window tint. For instance, would a guy that does inspection not get a ticket for passing an illegal car?? Yup, he sure would.

^^^ no, only the windshield and d/p windows.

i can understand the sticker a little better now. the sticker basically has the info of the shop where the tint was applied, therefore when you get pulled over and get cited for illegal tint they can also get the shop and fine them the $1k. am i correct?
