Talking I built my T56..

I finished my little project..hopefully it holds up.

I ordered the Tick Performance Stage II upgrade Kit and assembled it with that.

Here is all the parts..

Here is the 3-4 Slider with Upgraded Springs & Billet Keys..

Here are all the Shift Forks. The smaller ones are the 5-6 Fork and the Reverse Fork, they have stock Nylon Pads. The larger ones are the stock 1-2 Aluminum Fork, and the 3-4 Steel(upgrade from stock Aluminum) Fork. Both the 1-2 and 3-4 have upgraded Brass Bads..

Here is the Main Shaft with 2nd and 3rd Gear on it, and the 1-2 and 3-4 Slider/Synchronizer Assemblies..it's nice to see a good 2nd Gear on there..lol

Here is First Gear and the Mainshaft Bearing..

I then installed the Input Shaft and the Mainshaft into the Front Plate..

Then I bolted the Case to it with no Shims and torqed the Bolts to 30ft-lbs. I placed a couple of pieces of wood under it and Ratchet-Straped the whole assembly to the Bench. I thin setup a Dial Indicator and used a Pry Bar to pry up on the Input Shaft to check the end play in the Main Shaft. It came out to .047", the factory Shim was .040" thick. I installed a .050" Shim for preload on the new Bearings to compensate for break-in wear..

Once the new Shim was in I checked it again and it was spot-on perfect, the Input Shaft could spin with very little side to side movement.

I then installed the Counter Shaft and all the Shift Rails and the 1-2 and 3-4 Shift Forks..

These pieces here are very important..they are the Shift Pattern Guide Plate and Rail Guide. These are installed on as the Case is being slid onto the Shift Rail..

Here is the front half of the T56 fully assembled and sealed..

Here is the Counter Shaft Extention, this is fully assembled. This contains the Reverse Drive Gear, 5th Gear, 5-6 Slider/Synchro Assembly, and the 6th Gear..

Here is the Countershaft Extention installed with the 5 & 6 Shift Fork..

Here is the Reverse Slider, Synchro and Reverse Fork installed..

Here is the Reverse Gear, Mainshaft Rear Bearing, and Speed Sensor Reluctor Wheel installed..

Here is the Tail Shaft Housing installed..

Most people say to pry up on the 5 & 6 Shift Rail to get this to line up properly, I just shifted it into Reverse, slid the Tail Shaft Housing on, and as soon as it lined up on the Rail I got it to mesh with the Reverse Gear and it slid fully on.

After installing the Vent Tube, Rear Seal, and a couple of other things..here it is complete..

To you guys from Tick.. what it the proper break-in procedure for this kit?

As long as you are not trying to diagnose issues within the unit, replacing parts and getting them to work is not too difficult. Congrats on the rebuild........

Could be the Teeth on the Input Shaft rounded off a little bit or the 3-4 Synchro wearing out.

from what i have researched on here (most of the 67 subscribed threads i have on trannys are from you and the the source) im guessing syncro,, it only does it when the car is cold, and if im "rammy" (really bangin gears) during that cold period, other than that, no issues what-so-ever. It will make a kinda grindy "vrrrp" noise as i go into 3rd and 4th. I have also noticed that if i lift up on the shifter when i think its going to do it, it dosnt. That could just be my imagination, but ususally i just baby it until the car is warm, then i can cut loose and bang gears as much as i want without issue.

Lifting up on the Shifter won't have any effect on it.

It could be the fact that it is cold..wait till it warms up.

These guys here have built way more than I have..I'm not a pro at it but I had some damage in mine that I fixed..my Input Shaft was worn out(Teeth rounded off) so I got a new one, 2nd Gear Engagement Teeth were stripped off so I got a new stronger Gear, Reverse Gear Engagement Teeth were rounded off aswell as the Slider(slid into Reverse instead of 5th at 140mph, over-rode the Lockout), so I got a new Gear and flipped the Slider around to the un-used side. That was the major stuff, everything else was good, just normal wear and tear.
From researching things here most of my damage was common issues(some weren't) so it was easy to see and figure out what it wasn't doing that is was supposed to.

That and I have seen mine totally apart so it's easy to trouble shoot if something isn't going smooth.

These things really are simple once you understand them..

For drag racing or all around driving ?

I can see using an A4 for the 1/4 mile.

M6's are really fun to drive.
