It came down to the amount of space that there was to work with. The turbos couldn't be spread apart from each other much further, so the down pipes would have hit. Then on top of that there wouldn't be enough room to run the down pipe on the drivers side with the manifold and exhaust feed right there.
Also fella's, it is possible to weld to CAST manifolds. Seen a couple of buddies with truck/c6 manifolds that they hack off the factory flange, and weld in a V band flange. Seems to working with no issues on there cars.
