FML. T-56 Input Shaft Question
Rebuilt my T-56 w all the goodies.
4th gear / input was included in that build because the original was damaged (rounded engagement dogs)
Bought most parts from thegearbox.org, and a few from D&D
Wrestled, fought, cussed, stabbed, dropped, stabbed, dropped, etc for the better part of 5 hrs.
Trans *WILL NOT* go all the way flush w the bell housing.
After eliminating everything else, and I mean everything: TOB, splines, pilot bearing, etc.
I have determined the only thing that could be causing my issue is the bastards sent me a ******* LS1 input shaft....
Which is approx 1.5" longer, right...
Sooooo my question is that being the case (and I'm pretty damn sure it is) can I do anything to just USE the longer shaft?
Alternative is tear it completely back apart, and rebuild w correct input.
What do I need, lsx bell hsg? Will my existing clutch work? What else?
I'm beat with this thing
I don't think that many of you here have torn down a T56.. the Input Shaft is VERY easily removed..

Here is what you need to do if that is your problem..
1. Remove the 11 Bolts in the Front Plate.
2. Remove the Input Shaft.
3. Get LT1 Input Shaft and install new Bearing on it.
4. Check Bearing Clearances/Preload and re-shim the new Input Shaft with the Mainshaft.
5. RTV Frontplate and re-install to spec.
6. Install in car and check.
It only looks like maybe 1/2-3/4 inch or so of mating together w the bellhsg.
Im gonna call thegearbox tomorrow and ask that they overnight me a new shaft if they sent the wrong one.
Thanks Merv!

That portion alone looks to be maybe 1/4 longer than my old one.
I could cut off the ~1/2" it needs and re-taper it if theres enough there???
I found this so I could be wrong on the length that I said previously..

LT input length: 9-1/4"
LS input length: 10-5/8"
I called thegearbox today and confirmed. They DID send me an 010 input which is for lsx.
Sending out a new one today. They did make me pay the $27 difference in cost btw the two, which is reasonable I guess.
They are sending me a new front bearing with it which is cool cause its a PITA to pull off sometimes.
Should have her swapped out and installed this wknd.

Good to hear you figured it out and they're taking care of you.
