The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
However, this "legend" that you speak of, is not a legend here. It gets in the ring and does some work in our street scene every single week. The LS3's and LS7's are still small in number, and the LQ4/LQ9 cars are still considered iron block LS1's, since they are in the same family of motors. The LS1 here is still very much a mainstay and a workhorse. It has not faded at all.
I'm not talking about stock LS1's with a lid and a catback. We have plenty of H/C LS1's, blown LS1's, Nitrous LS1's, etc. They all hold their ground just fine.
Even if the newer engines are putting out more stock HP, the LS1 is still a great base to build on, just like the original small block still is.
How about the mod motored Mustangs...did they ever even HAVE any street cred??

The 2011 5.0L Mod motor (400hp/5.0L) will be better than the LS1, IMHO (stirring the pot), even smaller bore.
It's the LT1 which is the one that's fallen off the face of the earth. Talk about a huge fall, this engine used to be king. Now it might has well be a TPI 305 to most hot rodders.
Make your car not look so stock and you'll see a difference.
