Default I bought my old 93 Z28 back, now it needs some TLC

Well here is the story if you haven't seen my other thread.

This was my first Camaro at age 17. It was a 1993 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro. I purchased it for $4,500. I loved the thing, at the time. Well it was time to move on to a better car after owning it for just over a year.

The car was MINT, i had taken very good care of it (oil changes, washing/waxing, vacuum, etc)

I bought it with 89,xxx miles on it. This is what she looked like:

I did a few small things, tint, caliper paint, EBAY (yeah i know) intake, and I cut the muffler off (sounds great). Thats pretty much it. I didn't have extra money to dump into it.

Well my buddy was real interested in the car and I knew I wanted a LS1. Well I ended up selling it to him, for $4,000 with 112,xxx miles on it.

.... Here is what it looks like after 2 years and 23,xxx miles later.

Well, luckily I am almost certified in Auto body repair. Doing all of the body work will save me tons of money! Im probably going to keep the same color and repaint everything except the door jambs.

On the down side I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to building engines, i can take out bolts and i know what parts are what even internals to some extent, but fortunately i have some buddys that are. I can pull the engine and have them and you guys (hopefully) guide me on the right track.

I have quite the work ahead of me but i dont have a time frame it has to be done in.

Needless to say the kid beat the crap out of it, in a short period of time. I traded him my 94 cbr 600 for it. I put 1k of work into it, paint, sprockets, chain, everything was powdercoated. Hopefully he keeps that in good shape.

My ultimate goal with this car is low 12's. I will be doing cam/intake, maybe heads depending on how $$$ goes. There are endless amount of parts i need for this, but ill post up when I will need something.

I plan on doing all of the body work this winter and taking it to the track in the spring. Previous owner ran 14 flat with a ebay intake and a no muffler. I want my own timeslip to see what I started at.

Weight- I would like to break 3000 lbs on the scale, with full interior, no muffler, no spare tire, and the CAI, it has weighed in at 3360 lbs. I think thats a pretty good start. I have been following a members post (Beaflag VonRathburg) on making his build and seeing the good weight reductions he has done to it.

Im open to suggestions, comments or whatever you would like.

Thanks for checking it out, ill post as i go!

So far this is where I am at....

Pulled the seats, seat belts, center counsel, rear seats, rear seat belts, and got out the drills.

Gross

2 minutes later....

Found some rust

What is this? Its behind the drivers rear seat.

Took out the back seat brackets

Tonight my buddy and I will be taking out the brackets that the rear seat latches to and the ones on the back deck that the seat belts latch too.

Any suggestions???

I believe that is a sensor for the air bag module. Be sure to unplug the battery before taking it out if you are going to other wise you will be replacing a dash and windshield. It was a nice car hopefully you can bring it back! Good luck man.

Thanks everyone.

The tails are tinted, vht night shade with PPG JC661 clear over it.

Yeah, probably not worth the 2.5k but it was all sentimental value.

The color is Purple pearl metallic, pretty sure 4,9xx made and only made in 93 and maybe 94. (don't quote me on that)

It does looked banged up but nothing a bit of sanding, hi fill primer, sanding, paint clear, etc can't fix.

I will keep you updated on pics!

Thanks again!

the bundle of wires in the back seat that you posted pictures of goes to your fuel pump and tcs and abs atleast if it is set up similar to my 2000 and my 95 so do not remove it.

I equate this post to having you breaking up your virgin girlfriend because she wasn't as hot and would not put out like an LS1, she went to LA and got into **** and now that she well beat up, you took her back. Unfortunatly there are a few true stories about that....

But anywho. That is a rarer color and I do like it. Good thing you can do body work. id just get some new carpet or if your looking to shave weight and dont care about int. sound, get some Ozite.

You can take alot of **** out, i suggest leaving the HVAC in or have something that can at least defrost the windshield. A/C is pure luxuary that is not techincally needed. hell, if you can stand it, yank the radio, speakers, and if it has a factory amp, that too!

As for motor, its probably will need to be bored over, and might as well do some rods and pistons and have the crank turned down. Have the block checked for core shift and have the deck trued.

You can put a nice 230/236 cam in there with some mild ported heads and a decent header to some chambered mufflers before the axle. That would be real slick and would make good power.

Congrats on getting your first car back. Its hard to believe how some people take care of their cars, if you aren't going to take care of it why not get a Honda or something?

LMFAO, haha! As for the carpet I think I am going to keep the stock carpet. I want it to lose weight but I want to do it by not spending money, but rather ! stuff. I really dont want to go that far into the engine, I would rather do a cam only, stock ci, if possible. But im not the expert on that by any means.

I am going to keep the CD player and speakers, delete the A/C, seeing that it is cold around 70% of the year in Michigan. FML!
