Default I am looking into buying a 74 BMW 2002

I am wanting to buy a 74 bmw 2002 and making it into a road racer, or a drag car with a LS1 6 speed backing it. I did a search and I cant find anything. Has anyone done this on here.

How hard was it?
What rear end did you run 10 bolt, 12 bolt, 8.8, or 9"
Do they offer a tubular k member for the car? If not how did you get it in there?
How did you wire it up. It should be fairly simple to do.

I have always liked those cars. I am a little further ahead of you in my 240 swap. I got instructions off of this site to build a stand alone harness with relays and fuses, which I have done. Look into the dimensions of all the LS pans, take measurements off the BMW, see what you think may work. If you can find one thats close you're good to go. With a stand alone harness and a welder, the rest is just nuts and bolts.

2002 engine compartments are REALLY small. An ls1 might fit, but it'd be REALLY REALLY tight. Previous poster hit the nail on the head, measure a bunch before you take the plunge.

Oh yeah, don't forget to measure the tunnel as well. Cross section/depth as well as shifter location.

Thats my biggest concern. There is a 85 525i ls1 swap. I always thought a small light weight car like that stripped down with a ls1 and a 6 spd would be one fast SOB. I guess Ill just do some measuring. There really really cheap cars to buy.

The E30 swaps are very tight a 2002 would require a real shoehorn.

I would look at the BMW sites for more info. BMW diffs do a solid job of holding power. I would keep the suspension close to OEM design as the cars are very tossable and fun to drive.

If you really want the car a Miata based turbo motor maybe an option. 4G63 swaps are also common in E30s in some parts of the world.
