I have one of those, they are junk. The first one was broken when I opened it. Second one tried to turn over jacking up my 67 camaro. Another guy I know, we were at autorama he was jacking up his 68 chevy truck and it turned over the wheels were off of it too. It was a mess. I would look into craftsman. There is nothing wrong with harbor freight stuff, I have alot of tools from them. There jacks just suck. IMO.

15 years ago, I began messing with cars again. Family commitments began to dwindle as my kids began graduating and moving out.

I bought a couple HF jacks and they was OK, but didn't last very long as has been pointed out.

I bit the bullet and bought an AC DK13 jack. That was in 1999 and it still works like new today.

My old street car was lowered with Eibach Pros at the time and I could slide this thing all the way to the K-Member and jack away. It will lift the car over 2 feet off the ground. No more stacking 2x4 blocks to get a trans out.

Here is kind of a tongue in cheek floor jack shoot out ...
http://www.vorshlag.com/tech_jacks1.php
Some very good, side-by-side comparison data, though.

The AC line-up is no longer available
http://www.asedeals.com/hydraulicjacks2.html

But, they claim this is just as good as the ACH jacks.

i just bought one today. i was usin a jack i borrowed to do an oil change and with the way the front of the car is i couldnt get the handle straight up enough to actuate the release mechanism. so, i went to HF and bought a jack. it was 89.99 and its pt num. 67022. 2 tons, low profile and release can be actuated in any handle position. its nice and heavy and looks like it has a good sturdy frame. 2 7/8" minimum height, lifts to 20 1/16" maximum, so you can use it to do most stuff without need to use wooden blocks (unless you are jacking engine by the pan or need a few more inches like for headers )

i understand what you mean about the HF jacks seemingly tipping over - I bought a cheapo one to change tires with and used it for an oil change when i had nothing else around once (the one that costs 28 dollars or whatever, little compact red 2 ton jack with the yellow handle) and i jacked it up too high and the frame bent. waste of money. if you buy a chinese one for like 90 bucks though if it isnt broken in the box then it should work for a few years at least. i have to see if you can get the seals and stuff to rebuild them, was just curious about that. also HF around here at least offers extended warranties, like 20 bucks for 2 yrs and you can return for a new one no questions asked.

what part number jack did you use on the 67 and 68, 98z2885? was it mine? :/

Yeah, it is probably a bit overkill for working on one f-body and one cobalt, but I love it. I also have a smaller 2.5Ton walmart floor jack as a backup/spare/whatever. I need to pickup a second pair of jackstands and a set of ramps before I'll be happy.

I copied from other forum I posted:
I made order Arcan XL35 (#144236) 3-1/2 ton and can liftup ~20" & 1 yr warranty thru NorthernTool.com. It costs me 149.99 plus s/h $59 to my "business garage"= ~ $227.
I had been researched on floor jack thru few forums/consumer reports/others. I hope so, I made choose the best jack lif-up>> Arcan XL35.

I copied from Northern Tool.com:::::

I have the one below. My car is pretty damn low and I can still reach the kmember without having to drive up the car on anything to get the jack under it.

When buying a jack, I literally can't help but remember a guy that I worked with several years back. He was working under an old ('50s or '60s) Cadillac when it came down on him. He was a member of the plant maintenance crew, so you'd frequently see him walking from one place to another - and for a few weeks there, he was walking really slowly & carefully...

Remembering that has made it really easy for me to avoid buying cheap Chinese-made crap (even though I always use jack stands!).

Just my 2 cents...

That's kind pf pricey (not for what it is, but for me personally) but it may just be worth saving for. That's exactly what I need.

Craftsman 2-ton low profile jack from Sears. I bought it last year before reading the terrible reviews but everyone I know that has one (including myself) has had zero issues with it. I got it on sale, as well.

We've got two we've used in the shop as well.....never a hint of a problem.....Maybe people are killing the hydraulics by running out of fluid?

I have the same one. I thought it broke but it turns out that it just needed to be bled. It works great and I put it through its paces. I use it a couple of times a week and have had it for about a year now.

Not to be rude but your opinion of Jacks went out the door if you suggested a Crapsmen...

Do any sort of search here or a google search of Craftsman jacks and their "quality" Worst jack I owned, seals died out in like a year and I rebuilt it, seems to be ok now, but crap...

as for the harbour freight jack in your link, I have had 0 issues, noen what so every with that jack, used it nearly weekly when I was bigger into cars been sitting alot less now that I am not and no issues, still.... Surprisingly most people have had good experiences.

I would buy 5 of those before I wasted a dime on a craftsman.

I have been a Horrible Freight, I mean Harbor Freight connoisseur for years(prefered place to buy throw away tools at my work) They do sell mostly junk, but 1 out of 10 things they sell does its job, and sometimes better then its competitors.

I have full confidence in their jacks.... (well as much confidense as I can have in a hydraulic jack, ALWAYs use stands)

for all the stories of flipping jacks, sounds like inproper lifting, not a bad jack, the frames are just nearly identical to any other similar jack, if its goign to fail it would be the hydraulics.
