Shorties only exist because of emissions and clearance issues in some applications. They are better than stock, but I would never think of getting shorties unless I had to. In SoCal, I can't get away with mids or LTs.

I had 1 5/8" MAC shorties, or mid lengths, as some people call them running 11.4s at 118. I now have Kooks 1 3/4" long tubes and ran 11.4s at 120. Sure the Kooks are worth 20plus HP, but it is all upper end power as shown by the increase in trap speed but lack of a drop in ET. Honestly, I wish I would have stayed with the MACs, I miss their same-as-stock ground clearance.

Forgedlt4 - Thanks for the info. I've had others also recommend pacesetters.

Thanks 94fbird

I love how everyone loves to trash the hell out of shorties! I have had shorties then long tubes and now shorties again. I am lowered and long tubes took to much away from ground clearance. No performance differance noticed between the two. Just a difference in tone!

+1 on the sound difference. Longtubes have a more racey tone compared to shorties which don't sound too much different from the stock manifolds. But, if you can get longtubes, go that route. Shorties are horrendous for spark plug access unless you buy MACs.

I have the Edelbrock shorties and the only two plugs that are hard to get to are the driver side #'s 5 and 7. You just need to get those from under the car. Not too hard!

my pacesetters fit great, and never leaked.

but i made my own xpipe to bolt to them. ( i ave heard people had issues with their Y-pipe)

they will however RUST like crazy.

i bought the ceramic coated ones, and they rusted very quicky

Go with mids as a compromise. I had shorties on my old motor, only because I got them for free, as far as I could tell they didnt do much

Shorties are deffinitley better than stock, longtubes are the way to go if you want more performance. But, I'm gonna be running BBK shorties. Basically; Shorties=better than stock Longtubes=better than shorties.

It's pretty much dyno-proven that LTs make more power than shorties and mids, so the choice is obvious to me.

My set up started with a shorty set up.. but, since I live in a part of GA that has zero checks for emissions.. I went with the pacesetter LT's.

the pacesetters-they will rust really fast, and your going to lose all ground clearance.. my car is lowered and I hate speed bumps and most driveways.

I never had those issues with my old set up..

I have had the SLP shorties,Hooker shorties and have now had Pacesetter LTs for a while largest gain by far hence the reason they are still on my car. I don't care about the little amount of ground clearance difference Im in it for the performance.
