Chevrolet is busy perfecting the heavily updated 2006 Impala. The front-wheel drive sedan will remain on the W-car platform, but will be re-engineered and undergo major cosmetic changes as well.
Codenamed GMX360, the heavily redesigned Impala will arrive for the 2006 model year, along with the SS version seen here, indicated by the dual exhaust and spoiler.

If the Impy must remain a FWD econo box, fine. GM has to make its money. Just give us a camaro and a four dour rwd car (call it a Belleaire or a Caprice or something and give it an LS2 and a SS badge). and we will be happy.

FWIW the next Impala is supposed to be based on Zeta according to insider info. But remember that Buick, Holden and Pontiac will get their hands on the platform before Chevy according to the current GM scheduling for the allocation of the platform amongst its nameplates. Geez if they wanted to make it easy they'd have Holden develop the 4 door, have Pontiac do the 2 door and Chevy do the light truck/Ute and just sell all of em in both markets.
