Can I put the gear ratios from the Z06 in my T-56?
Ryan
I was wondering about this.. Looks like the Z06 has some awesome pickup with the first 3 gear ratios being shorter. How much would it cost..?

From what I have been told, it is not a direct swap. You would need to replace the input shaft ($$$) and other things. Maybe someone else could find out exactly what else.

The early LT1 1LE cars from the factory had a stump puller of a 1st gear. used them because when a 5" clutch is used, it is hard to take off, it was in the 3s, i think 3.07 tobe exact, but dont quote me on that.

That was 93 only I believe. 5th, and 6th gears were differant than 94-up. The LT1 uses a different bell housing than the LS1 though (I think).
Yes, this change has been done, and yes, the gears and syncros are a direct swap.
As for the other issues, remember that the ZO6 trans, coded M12, carries a heavier inputshaft, as does all Corvette stick shifts. Stronger than the f car input shafts.

Seems on parr with the cost of a new T56, my question is: Were all the gears replaced (the 0.50:1 6th is quite anemic IMHO) and WHO did the conversion?
Also, any idea if the syncros can be upgraded? (Seems to run in my mind that some of the older style T56's could be had with brass?) Doesn't the M12 use carbon fibre? (Which would also be a nice step up?)
TIA,
- Joe
I do all the work, on all the performance cars that enter the dealership, and I did all the work personally. I serve every part of every car, I demand this from my dealership, as if my name is on it, I do the work.
The brass versus ceramic composition is an incorrect comparison, given that the blocker rings are what you are speaking, not the actual inner and outer cones, which is what was changed.
On t-56, blocker ring durability is what is at issue, and the revised inner and outer cones are the major changes, and these are direct swaps for the revised parts.
Any good shop who knows what he is looking at in regards to T-56 should be able to perform this correctly. Now, if they WANT to do this, thats a different story.
