How do you change clutch fluid.

How do you change clutch fluid. My brother has a m6 and the little resivoir next to the brake is full of black fluid but the bigger tank is still clear. So I'm assuming this is the clutch fluid and its not suposed to be black since it says to use brake fluid. So how do we go about changing the fluid.

Re: How do you change clutch fluid. Are you talking about the bigger tank on the left? The rectangular shaped one?? My brake fuild turned darker after a while because of the heat that the new headers give off...if that bigger container is empty, I hope his brakes work...

Not really, they're both filled with brake fluid, it's supposed to be clear. Bleeding the clutch is like bleeding brakes, there's a bleeder on the slave. The best way to do it is use a 1/4" breaker bar and socket, there isn't much room to reverse a ratchet.

Re: How do you change clutch fluid. its a small tank right next to the side of the car, and farther in towards the middle of the car is a bigger tank I am sure is the brake tank. the brake tank is clear but the smaller one is black liquid.
so the clutch fluid is the same as the brake fluid ? How do I change my clutch and brake fluid ? Do I just get a wet and dry vac suck out the stuff from the reservoir up to and then fill it up ?
The way to "change" clutch fluid is to bleed it. You crack the bleeder screw while someone else pumps the clutch pedal. All while adding new fluid to the resivior not letting it run dry, eventually youll evacuate the old fluid and have nothing but new stuff running through the system. It's a pain to do, but that's the textbook way to do it.

if you use that turkey baster method it will make only a little differance and the fluid will turn black again pretty soon. the real way to do it is to bleed the system under the car while somebody is pumping the clutch pedel and adding fluid when needed.
you can use the turkey baster to get the old fluid out of the resevoir and then fill with new fluid and start the bleeding, it will cut a little time off of the bleeding process and get the fresh fluid coming out a bit faster
