I'm building a new home right now...I'm setting up the garage for a two-post lift (12' ceiling, etc.)...anyway, most manufacturers have minimums of 4 1/2" slab thickness and 4000 psi mix with reiniforcement. What I'm going to do is lay out the mounting pad areas for the lift and we're going to dig them a bit deeper so that the slab is thicker in those points...shooting for around 6" or so thickness. According to my concrete guy, 4000 psi mix is about standard for a residential garage floor...

EDIT: The minimums I listed are for a reasonable do-it-yourselfer sized lift (around 10,000 lb capacity).

I don't really have one good shot of my garage, so I'll throw up a few different angles.

Hey guys i'm not trying to jack this thread or anything but am starting to search on residential pole buildings and am not sure what demensions I should get. Looking to get a car in it with plenty of storage space / maybe room for 2 cars and more storage space. Size in height width and length? Is a concrete pad of 5 inches good for a lift in the near future? Getting a lift probably determines the height as well. Any tips / pointing me in the right direction would help greatly. Ps; i would like to post up my garage when it's all done : ) , can pole building set ups become really good for car storage and very well insulated?

This is a friend of mines, but have worked in it quite a bit. Going from a tight 3 car to this is like paradise.

It's nothing much but I had to build a workbench for my one car garage... built this one into the wall... setup the work bench for power (the reel connected is 30 feet of spooled up extension cord), stereo for blasting tunes while I'm wrenching.. and I'm getting ready to wall mount a television soon.... think i spent like 80 bucks for the lumber and I could probably park a car on it it's that strong.....

Notice ATI TH400 on floor below bench

well since this picture, i have mostly finished the garage, everything is insulated and drywalled...still need to hand the ceiling though....

then the guy that handles my buddy's entire race team..his barns are kick ***...this one....it's pretty big, then behind where the cars are at, there is a full machine shop WITH ENGINE DYNO! no joke, and an entire parts inventory for everything corvette....the guy's an ex GM engineer, now retired and plays with vette racecars all day long

i have a few pics of the machine shop, but he asked me to "keep them for my own good" as he doesn't like people knowing his setup for some reason...
oh and for ***** 'n' giggles..their entire race team

My garage. No where near big enough, but where I live I cannot build a pole barn. Damn sub-divisions. The garage fits 3 cars and a very shallow workbench on the side, but there is only about 1.5 feet of space between each car and only about 1 foot front and rear of the car. It sucks. In order to work on anything comfortably you have to at least move one car out, which I don't like doing when it is shitty outside.

Here is my garage. Nowhere near what some of these are in caliber, but it has allowed me to do any work on the vehicles so far. It could be considered a 3 or 3.5 car garage depending on how you look at it.

My biggest desire is a lift currently, but the concrete is not thick enough or in good enough condition.

I bet your floor would handle a 4 post lift bowtie man. You don't even really need to bolt those down, I think.
