Wastegate: Dump to atmosphere or back to exhaust?
Wastegate: Dump to atmosphere or back to exhaust? Which is a better plan. As usual, Im fighting parts that dont fit. I bolted on the Tial WG and it doesnt come close to lining up to the pipe that runs to the DP. Is there any difference venting to atmosphere or back to the exhaust?

Also, as for dumped versus not, where is your WG located and what is your planned exhaust? With my WG dumped underneath on the passenger side and my open exhaust I cannot hear it.
I would also think that you could pick up a bit of power if you have a dumped WG instead of routing it into the dowpipe.
FWIW, I can hear my turbo spooling up very clearly (whistling noise).

Here is my car on a short run, my exhaust exit just under the rear passenger seat (right where most cutouts do)
Personally, even if I did not have an open DP I would still run a dumped WG because I like to get max power.

I only have a 12" down pipe off the turbo, no muffler and the WG's are dumped to the atmosphere. You can hear the WG's over the exhaust and turbo...

the smoke was from needing a oil restrictor, that is taken care of now and doesn't smoke now.

Thats what Im thinkin'. When the WG opens, it would seem like a big exhaust leak coming from a 1.5" pipe. On my kit, it plumbs back in at a 90* to the DP though
Im going to fix it and see what it does. My exhaust Runs like this, the down pipe comes out on the drivers side of the engine at the rear, then goes just behind the transmission and crosses over to meet up with the normal catback. The wastegate is on the passenger's side comes out facing down then turns straight back. It then merges with the rest of the exhaust system at a angle that when the wastegate opens, its flow creates an eductor type of suction on the down pipe. Now, IN THEORY, this may enhance total system flow but its untested definatively.
