What kind've power are you putting through them, and how long have they lasted?

Just saw this video on another board about it:

the guy they are talking about is running 4.10s with 420rwhp before the 200 shot of nitrous on a 10 bolt.

kinda spendy to have it done but if it actaully works its a far cry cheaper then a new rear.

**grabs some popcorn and waits for the 10bolt bashing to begin **

Wonder if you can mikronite other parts like internal engine parts.

wouldnt the weak point of the 10 bolt be both the ring and pinion and the carrier?

The weakness of the 10 bolt is just that, the size, the 12 bolt is better because its a bigger housing which means bigger pinion gear, bigger ring gear, and bigger carrier which is also why they pull more power out. I know you can get transmission parts done in this but I too am very interested in seeing how this plays out, how much is it to get the ring and pinion gears done?

the video says around 250 for the ring and pinion but you have to have new parts so add alittle more to that.

This supposedly isn't any kind've new technology. It's been around for awhile. I guess it's just getting this kind've attention because a big name aftermarket company is offering the service. Hopefully Crane will eventually start offering Mikronite gears straight off the shelf so you won't have to hassle with the back and forth shipping. For the price of these compared to a 12-bolt, might not be too much of a risk.

i think it's probably more hoopla and marketing gimmick than functional. our rears break due to HP. i dont think a coating is gonna help it last any longer. if it was tried and true it would have already happened and it would be talked about everywhere and offered with the best rear end setups available.

Based on the statement in bold, you either didn't watch the whole video or pay attention to what the guy said.

heres my 2 cents on a 10 bolt. My buddy has a ls1 ta with a 10 bolt. Launched on n2o at the track with DR's. Aparentley it broke (go figure). He did how ever had a girdle on it. The ring and pinion were still perfect, all he did was break a axle. New axle and he was goin again. So in my experience a girdle helps out with gear deflection.
