t5 trans rebuild- please help me
t5 trans rebuild- please help me How hard would it be to rebuild a T5 transmission. Besides a gear puller shop press or hammer and a bar, are there any special tools required. I hope this doesn't sound stupid but here goes it, can i just buy a standard rebuild kit and a how to video or book and have at it? I've never rebuilt a Transmission before and right now I'm nursing my money tree back to good health so I'd rather do it my self.

T5s are quite easy to work with. I don't know about a video but you can dowload a PDF of the repair manual from Tremec.To your tool list add a good set of snapring pliers.
Anyone know how long it usually takes to rebuild, are there any tolerences that have to be measure via calipers mic or feeler guage, is it a bad idea to try and attempt this on my own? thanks
i had to replace the t5 in my firebird and it was only $1500 and took only a day and a half. Pretty convenient and not that expensive. I was going to put in a t56 and swap put the rear end for the better gears but i learned that the car was going to my little brother once i got my trans am so i didnt care anymore

Your cost figures seem to be quite excessive for a T5. One could easily buy a new box, new clutch AND have them installed within that figure. This is a DYS thread, did you mean take it in to the rape place?
