Default My 240sx / S14 LS1 Swap - Progress *56k beware*

Well I finally got my LS1/T-56. It's from a 2000 Camaro SS. I plan to put this into my s14 240sx and keep it a daily driver, so keeping it semi-quiet is my goal. Although I'm sure it'll take some effort.

As for parts, I've accumulated:
* sbc adapter plates and mounts;
* an rb20det x-member from a skyline r32
*gto oil pan to arrive.

As for headers I'm still looking around. Anyone got a set for me I might've seen someone using covette c5 stainless steel headers, but I need to double check.

As for notching the x-member, I'm going to have it notched before I get the motor in. That way I can save some time for the whole swap. If there's any advice / pointers you guys can give me, or some parts I might be able to use for the swap I'd greatly appreciate it 110%.

Here's some pix of my parts...

Internals looking good...

Rb20det x-member

Mounting stuff...

And finally the car I'm going to put it into...

I have to say I am jealous. I have been on the lookout for a clean black Kouki chassis to do the swap on. That will be sweet. Keep us posted on the progress.

very nice I want to do this next after my LS1 RX7. I'm hooked on V8 swaps, I like that S14 is that all just Silvia front end? Where did you get the mounts and the subframe from, along with the front end parts like that?

slo is useing some jba c5 stainless headers moded (they called something along those lines).
also let me know if you have any hood clearance problems. i wanna do the 97-98 front end on mine but it looks like the hood slopes down alittle more then the 95-96. or slopes down sooner. i hope their the same (difference shouldn't be much if any). i want the kouki front.

Yes I was using C5 JBA modded headers and they worked great. It should fit under the stock hood with a little bit of trimming.

I think you should have the same clearance with the kouki (97-98) or the zenki (95-96) because they both utilize the same radiator support which the hood rests on (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

i have the ls6 intake and i had to notch my hood. it was keeping it from closing by about 1/2 inch. oil pan is about 1/2 above the rack. so its not cause the motor is too high. maybe cause my motor is alittle bit more forward.

You're correct. The front end is a JDM/oem front bumper with a c-west front lip. Most import performance shops like "mynismo.com" could get those parts for you. The mounts I ordered from "speedway.com".

well your a little ahead of me, but my black kouki is going to be getting a LS1 here right quick. be sure to post up all the goods man. I take it that R32 RB20, and R33 RB25 members are the same? also i am looking int o differances of R33 RB26 members. got a line on one of those too.

I'll be watching this one closely.

my new project car, the old RB25 one blew time for a new car and a new motor!

Hi there. You can take a look at this thread and find the differences of how the rb25 and rb20 x-member sit...

here for rb25det info and more

Chances are the rb20det x-member is much easier to find so I'd go that route.

rb20det x-member info here

Take a look at post #29 by ls1neezy. He recommends using the rb20det x-member vs the rb25det. Although I can't confirm fitament, I don't think you can go wrong using either since both engine mounting points are moved forward.

Took some pix of how the rb20det x-member will line up with the ls1 using the sbc adapter plate. It looks like the AC will get in the way. So the only option is to notch the AC bracket to make it fit or totally remove it, even so, I'm not sure if the AC will even fit in the engine bay :X. Can anyone confirm?

An view of how the x-member will sit vs. the sbc mounts on the engine.

Notched the subframe today. It's about 9" inches wide and close to 2" (about 1.8") inches inward. The basic idea is have enough gap to let the oil pan fit through.

Next step is to take it to get welded and boxed up. Btw what gauge steel are you guys using? I'm thinking the thicker the better.
