Default S-10 V8 swap

Ive seen plenty of 350 swaps in S-10's, but does anyone have a manual transmission?

Mine used to be a 5 speed, it was fun. I used the stock 4.3 5 speed trans, which is the same as a 1/2 ton truck, and ran 12's.

i saw a procharged 427 in an S-10 once, it had 33 inch sportsmans too. meanest S-10 ever.drivign around a little hick town.. bright yellow too. does anyone know the difference between the 4.3's 5 speed and the 2.8's? im about to pick up a sweet little S-10 with a 2.8/5 speed and i want to do a 350 swap but keep a manual. if a 4.3's can hold up to 12's, then would a 2.8's hold up to 13's (at best)?

The 2.8 has a different bellhousing bolt pattern, and is a weaker trans.

I had an '85 s-10 once upon a time, had a mid-70's stockish 355, 882's, decent cam solid lift cam, roller rockers, pete-jackson, blah blah blah. who cares right?
what caught my eye (and the selling point) was the sagin'***** 4speed behind it.

personally, I didn't care for the looks of it (the moon visor, the hood scoop, the chrome around the rockers/fender wells) but I couldn't complain seeing as it was already on there
the truck ran alright, it would easily beat a bolt-on '99-up mustang GT, but nothing special. lol, stock 4cyl single trac 4.10 rear would make the 275/60's burn through 4th gear with ease. that's about all that truck was good for, that and hauling hay..

yea, not a big fan of all the accessories but sounds like a badass truck. well, the truck i want has a 2.8 in it which id like to keep until im out of school, so what are some minor upgrades to do to make it more fun to drive? im thinking headers, true duals, electric fans, etc...

thanks 96lt1, its not really mine... its my dads but i drive it on the weekends. its got a 300 horse crate motor with a cam and a th350 with a shift kit. too bad its got stock 2.41's out back with a peg leg, or it might be decently fast.

a t-56 with a 383 would be BAD ***!!!! i was thinking a t-56 with a carbed LS2 crate if i ever get money.

yea, im thinkin you can get the carbed LS2 crate and hot cam for under 6 grand, but i could be wrong. 500+ hp, all aluminum, t-56.. that would be a hell of a sleeper.

s10forum.com is a great site to get any info you need about v8ing an s10 or doing anything with one. Mine ran a 12.7 before my cam/stall swap. Good luck with yours.

i just sold my 96 sonoma with a 355 in it.
i used the stock 4.3l trans. it is the NV3500. same one they use in the fullsize pickups 2wd, with the 305 and 350 and the 4.3l. you can defianlty find them in the 4.3 extended cab s-series (94+), as they were considered a work truck.
suposed to be rated for near 450ft lbs.
they have an internal slave sylinder also.

that BB s-10 is amazing...

450 lb. ft. is pretty stout, that would work perfectly for what i want to do.

I've had both, a manual V8 S10, and a BBC S10. For the maual, I used the stock 4-cyl 5 speed (T5). Don't judge, it was what I had at the time. I used a Lakewood bellhousing designed for a '82-'92 camaro. This allowed me to use the stock slave cylinder form the truck ( with some minor grinding). I used an 11" clutch disk from an astro van, which also had the correct spline. Worked fairly well, and I was also able to use the factory crossmember and driveshaft.

At the time, I was able to pick up used transmissions at the boneyard for $50. one would usually last about a month behind the 355 I had in it.

The BBC was in a '91 2wd Blazer. The crossmember was sectioned, and a trans crossmember was fabricated. Ths steering shaft was a little hoky, using too amny universals to go around the motor, but all in all, it worked pretty well. Hooked hard, and was pretty sneaky on the street. Ran 6.20s in the 1/8.
