well a few of you asked so i thought i'd do a write up on how to wire your fog lights to stay on when the high beams lights are on.

well first off pop the hood disconnect the negative battery cable. on the driver side by the fender sits the fuse blocks. pop open block #1 (top right fuse block) and youll see the fog light relay. theres one clip holding the fuse block down and its at the top where the arrow points. you need a flathed screwdriver to pop the clip and the entire block will slide up and out


on the under side of the fuse block theres gona be the 4 wires for the fog light relay. the light green one is what we will be working with.


i went down about 6" to have some slack. then tape/cap off the non relay side of the wire. then put the fuse block back in its place and make sure it clips in. the relay side of the wire need to go to a ground. i used a quick-splice to splice into a ground wire that runs right next to the fuse block, on top of the fender well.







then make sure to shrink wrap or use some electrical tape to protect it from the wheather


at this point your done TA/Firebirb guys BUT Camaro guys, the fog light switch inside the car will not say the fog lights are on (little amber light ill not light up) when the high beams are switched on so theres another step to this. its not necessary but its verry simple and makes the switch work right (light comes ON) with the highs on

pop off the radio/air control bezel thing. just pull it off, its held on by clips.




theres not a lot of room so pop out the fog light switch and traction control switch (if you have it).


now were back to the light green wire. cut the wire with some room on both sides to work with. the non switch sides needs to be taped/caped.


the switch side of the wire need to be grounded. use a wire connector or solder the new wire together.




i ran the wire down to where the front of the center consol bolts up. i pulled the radio out because it was 2 screws and it made running the wire down there much easier.


now put the radio back if you pulled it out. connect the swtches back to the bezel and pop the bezel back in place and you all done

 

wow, you did so much the last couple of days.

 

yea i thought i might get off my butt and do some work to the car this weekend. since id be doin this, i though why not just make a write up on them. make it a whole lot easier for others trying to do it. i hope i made the directions simple enough on them.

 

Why didn't you just ground the fog switch to the ground coming off the switch? That would have been so much more simple

 

hmm didnt think of that so i just ran it down to the center consol bolt. that is a good idea and it would make it easier. maybe ill rewire it and do that, if i do ill edit the post

 

i don't see where i can ground the green wire for the trans am in the engine bay that's close to it? what am i not seeing?

 

hmm well i dont kno if the TA has that ground that i spliced into. i used one that is like 6" above the fuse box

 

I did this and it didn't work the wire got really hot and the lights didn't come on? I cut the green wire and connected it to the ground in the inner fender do you guys know what I did wrong???

so like brian mentioned i can just tap into the black ground wire from the switch right?

 

yeah, right? i really don't want to mess anything up!

 

did u ground the relay side of the wire or the side that goes in the wiring harness?

i suppose u can but the black wire is a bigger guage (smaller wire) than the green wire. it might overload that thin ground wire

 

I grounded the wire that is on the harness side not the one that comes from the relay

 

thats what you did wrong. ground the relay side of it and it should work

i did this last night on my 99 ta. peice of cake took about 10 minutes. One thing i did differently was instead of splicing in some wire to reach the grounding point on the wheel well, i just made sure i left as much green wire on the relay side and ran it up to the nearest fender bolt. Even easier!

 

This is how I did it also, I cut the green wire down low in the harness so I could just put an eyelet on it and it reached the ground stud on the fender well.
Also on the TA there is no green wire at the switch to ground on mine? I just cut and grounded that one green wire at the fuse block under the hood and all works fine including the light in the switch.

 

I noticed your low beams were on as well, does this mod also do that? i thought there was something else you had to do to get your lows and highs to stay on at the same time

 

How about for the LT1?
