"newer" as in the later genIII and genIV motors... they didnt stop building motors when they stopped building fbodies.. lol.
if you swap, you'll need the coil pack harness because the coil connector is diffrent.
but its pointless.
the fact is, the stock coils are strong enough to light off a 6second boosted race car.
when you start reaching stupid levels of cyl pressure, (we're talking about, worried about lifting the heads level).... THEN you go into the PCM with your tuning software, and adjust the dwell settings for the coils.
thats it.
other then that... you dont have to worry about the ignition system on your motor... you have 8 fullsize coils, one for each cyl... its so ridiculously overkill that its almost funny.
dont worry about it, and spend your money elsewhere.
