Default LQ4 build up?

I am thinking about getting a complete LQ4 at a junkyard for $600. I believe its a '00, was running motor, and it looks in good shape.

Is this a good platform to mod? I want to get the engine on a stand and build it up. It will be a long term project for a 98-02 fbody. And hopefully I want it to pass emissions.

I was thinking about LS6 intake, LS6 cam, P&P heads, 85 mm TB, 85 mm MAF, 42# injectors, hone the block, forged 4.000 crank, connecting rods, forged aluminum full dish pistons for a 9.0:1 compression ratio. And eventually...boost!

the iron block is good to use for boost. Does it have a 6.0L stamped in the side? or 5.3L.

I have a 6.0 that I am getting some more info then buying some parts for a killer 408 set up.

Give them 400 cash and see if they take it. If it has 317 heads then it would be worth 600

Casting number on the block: 12551364. I initially thought it was an LM7, but then I read the casting number. I haven't got a chance to read the head casting number yet.

I am looking into a 408 stroker kit. Summit has a few, Eagle kit is about $2600 for an all forged kit. Lunati kit is ~$4000.

I may just stick with the stock bottom end and only boost about 8-10 psi. I think I will be satisfied with that.

I picked up the motor today...I verified that its a complete 6.0 liter LQ4 with aluminum 317 heads...all for $500+taxes. I bought an engine stand, waiting on a buddy to borrow a cherry picker to get it off the truck. I'm excited to start the project.

sounds good. You can look for some used pistons and rods and make a really nice cheap 370.

Good price. have fun.

It says your LQ4 is built and tuned...what did it take to hit 446hp/416tq? What heads and cam are you running, etc?

If your gonna be stroking out the motor, I'd run a larger cam than the LS6 cam. Raise the compression ratio while it's N/A so mill the LS6 heads down. Once you do go F/I then get 72cc chambered heads.

that sounds like a killer DD set up and good track car.

Don't forget new bearings, seals and gaskets as those add up.

Also look into the katec rod bolts.

I read a post about running a LS2 timing set, is that recommended with high output? Also saw a suggestion for a ported oil pump. Is it as simple as slightly enlarging and smoothing out the entrance and exit openings? Shim the relief spring?
