Don't knock it 'til you try it.

I like trying new things...I'm getting ready to do a LS1 swap in a Toyota street/rock-crawling truck so I'll do a little more research into it before I make a decision. If I like it, I'll buy it...throw it on there, and then dyno the motor before I drop it in to see if it affects power output or not. If it doesn't, I'll drop the motor in and see how it does. If it's worth half a **** I'll post up a thread.

Funny this came up..

A guy comes into autozone today buying a bunch of electrical connectors and such.

I was curious, and asked what he was doing. He said he couldn't really tell me, but he was making his Scion XB hydrogen powered.

So he shows me outside..

He pulls the fuse for the injectors.... Car would not start.

He then hooks power up to a mason jar (yes a mason jar full of water)

And what looks to be a hose coming from the car and it "t"s into a hose that runs into the TB.

Goes to start the car (w/ the injector fuse still pulled)

BAM...Car starts and idles like a champ......

So yes..it can be done. I seen it before my own eyes.

Yes they say believe nothign what you hear and half of what you see... but I would not BS on this. His car ran off a mason jar full of water

My skepticism is this. If it is that easy and cheap and really works, why haven't the OEMs, especially the domestic ones not using this instead of trying to develop flex fuel and hybrid vehicles with all the money they can spend on R&D. Why aren't the Japanese OEMs who always seem to one up the American OEMs using this technology. Do you not think that any OEM that announced they could double your mileage for only the cost of water and the small cost of adding it to a vehicle would not have customers flocking to buy their cars and trucks. Especially the big gas hog vehicles Americans love to drive.

Yeah, it's BS....if the large car companies haven't tried a 250 dollar solution to improve their MPG ratings, then it doesn't work.

If you think of it in terms of thermodynamics, you are taking one process, the burning of fuel, to make electricity to separate water, to burn again. Seems inefficient to me. Also, yeah, you are not going to be able to make enough hydrogen to constantly run off of.

i thinkhey aren't using it because ot takes thousands of man hours of testing to fully know how it will operate and to idiot proof it. Also i believe that the governement is strongly subsidizing ethanol, WHICH IT NOT THE ANSWER TO ANYHTING!!!

First they mix some bakingsoda in the water and the car runs on browns gas. I'd like to see some results from people on here as to how well it works.

Looks valid to me (three links there...).

The thing here is that you use the hydrogen and oxygen gas mix and vent it into the air intake, not as something to completely replace fossil fuel (those units can't make enough of the gas yet). The hydrogen/oxygen mix helps the gasoline or diesel burn more completely, giving you more power and better gas milage.

Well I have something.

A guy I work with was under his car with a friend at lunch yesterday and I asked them what they were doing. I had read a little here about it and when I looked under the hood there was the HHO canister. He homemade the kit (which looked like ones I saw in links) and was wiring it. This was going on a Civic which he got base 36-38 MPG. After he left he was going to fill with water, run the hoses and add bicarb. I was going to take pics yesterday but just figured it was what is readily available out there. He put the kit together for about $20! I will let you know his results as I get them because if it works I am putting it on my Civic. I would never do it on the TA until it is well proven not to lean anything out but will if it works on my Civic. By this time next week I should have some data for you. He said a relative got an increase using basically the same thing. He is hoping for 50 MPG.

20% claimed gain puts the Civic at 38 MPG and TA at 30 MPG. Not night and day but savings is savings.

I can see Hyrdogen helping with the burn plus water helps with ignition. My concern would be pinging or melting something.

Intersting stuff. I can just hear the debates in a few years...

Should I run tap or bottled water?
Will Evian or Dasani increase my power or MPG?

Considering "premium" bottled water is about $5 a gallon now I wonder what it'll be in the future!

I'm looking at one of these too. Probably put it on my clapped out 98 S-10 first.

A guy a work has been building them. He is saying 10% improvement is easy. You do need to get the right voltage divider setup so that it works with your O2 and air flow measurement setup. You’re adding O and H so your O2 will be reading high O, without the adjusters, the ECU will be adding fuel to compensate. Monitoring EGT is a good idea too.

I also have another friend who is putting one on his truck right now. He's been keeping close track of MPG for the past month or two. We'll see how his does as well.

Seems that most systems run between 12-25 amps @12v....so for most people having and separate battery to supply the juice would be a good idea too. Esp. if you drive a lot of hwy miles.

with how cheap it looks to make a kit yourself, i don't see why one wouldn't try it. i'm sure the engine would see the added volume to the intake if you injected it before the MAF, but how would you adjust the O2 sensors?

ok so lets be honest here people say its not possible and if it was then it would have been done by the Domestic car companys.... are you serious? Congress doesnt control America, either does the President its the Oil companys that control this country and the entire world do people really think the technology isnt there? it is BMW has a car that runs on either gasoline or Hydrogen and is completly stable and ready to go problem is... you cant just pull up anywhere and fill up your tank on compressed hydrogen.. why cant you? because the oil companys havent cornered the market on hydrogen or any other alternate fuel when they do and we switch you will simply be buying 76 hydrogen or Chevrons hydrogen etc.. also many of you dont know this but there was a article written in the 60s-70s time frame. a man made a carburator that used the engine to heat up the gasoline and turn it into gas form and burned it that way. the end result was a 70mpg car and this was back then. what happend to him? the oil companys bought his product and made him sign a contract that he wouldent reproduce it and put it on a shelf somewhere like area 51 and never spoke of it again. why? well hell why would you want to give up how filthy rich your getting every day of the current rising price of gasoline? i know i wouldent they know they will only get richer and richer....
