Default QTP HV Merge Header LEAKING BAD

Here is another post with some pics:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/868073-got-my-qtp-lt-s-today.html

Mine leak so bad that I am overcome by fumes if I am driving with the windows up and the vent on. I either have to get rid of them or fix them, and they perform too well to get rid of.

Since QTP didn't return my email, has anyone got any repair ideas? I was thinking of braizing them or even silver solder. It is too tight to get a torch head back there (which is why they aren't welded in the first place fyi), so welding is pretty much out. Anyone?

There are pics in the last thread of that link I posted. I will get some pics of mine up tomorrow.

Also, I just noticed I posted in the wrong forum. Could someone move this to external? Thanks.

that looks like it could be fixed from that picture. But if I was in your boat I'd take it out and take it to a shop and have them fix it. I think you need to have wire to weld stainless so I'd just call around I dont know what qtp would do for you but I'd try to get ahold of them thats a defect in my book.

You could always try some JBweld or some other high temp epoxy.

Why will QTP not fix their headers?................. it is an obvious defect from them.

They haven't told me they won't fix them. I would sure like to hear their response on this though. I have had them for about year. I chased the leak all over including two different y-pipes, a dozen band clamps (at $10 a pop), and six tubes of RTV Copper. Then I find out the header itself is leaking.

The problem is, you just can't get in there and get a welder on them. I thought I might be able to get a Oxy/Acet torch in there and melt something in. Just looking for some ideas.

That is a good idea. What other options are there? Not that I have anything against JB weld.

I like the JB weld idea, or some of that metal epoxy that is in the clay bar that you have to knead to active. You could pack the crap out of the header collector with some of that stuff...problem is I have no idea what kind of temps it can withstand. I believe that stuff is called "Quicksteel" or something like that.

edit: looks like it is good to 500 degrees... http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Serv...poxy_putty.htm

My QTPs were not welded on that primary either, but no leaks to date..KNOCK ON WOOD. I noticed that about 1/4 of the weld was incomplete before putting them, but it looks like my fitment was just tight enough to seal.

I dont know about JB weld I dont think that its made for high temp like that I could be wrong but I wouldent trust epoxy on mine, and I have used JB weld on alot of stuff it works great.

wouldnt the heat expand the metal and seal the leak on its own?

I think it would if it weren't welded at all, but it is about 2/3 welded and it can't expand the whole diameter.

Here is the pic of my passenger side which is leaking the most. Driver's side looks similar to the other pic (came out too blurry). My camera keeps focusing on the first thing in the line of sight.

They have a badge on them, so I don't think so. It looks to me like these are not supposed to be welded. They fully weld the first two, but they can't weld the inside of the last two. If it was a tighter fit, it wouldn't leak, but the slip fit wasn't that tight and now there is a huge gap.
